What Decides Your Final Price

Distance & route

The single biggest factor. Rates per km fall as distance rises — short hauls carry fixed loading/unloading costs.

Volume of goods

Movers price by truck size needed (tempo → 14 ft → 17 ft → container), not by room count alone. Decluttering before the survey directly cuts your quote.

Floor & lift access

Ground + lift is the baseline. Each stair-only floor typically adds ₹500–1,500 for the extra labour.

Packing grade

Basic (blankets + stretch wrap) vs full packing (bubble wrap, cartons, crates for fragiles) can swing the bill 20–30%.

Season & date

Month-end weekends and May–June peak season run 15–30% higher. Mid-month weekdays are cheapest.

Transit insurance

Typically 1.5–3% of declared goods value. Skipping it saves little and risks everything on long hauls.

Hidden Charges to Watch For

Every one of these should be named in your written quote. If a mover won't itemise, walk away — see our 7-step verification process for how listed movers are screened.

  • Packing material billed separately after a "material included" verbal promise
  • Stair / shifting-labour surcharge announced on moving day
  • Toll and octroi charges not mentioned in the written quote
  • Warehouse handling fee when the truck is shared with another consignment
  • GST added on top of an "all-inclusive" quote (18% applies to moving services)
  • Unpacking and reassembly charged extra despite being quoted as included

Charges by City

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do packers and movers charge in 2026?+

Local shifting within a city costs ₹3,000–₹25,000 depending on home size (1 RK to 3 BHK). Intercity moves range from ₹6,000 for short hauls under 300 km to ₹55,000+ for 2,000 km+ corridors with a full 3 BHK household. Car transport adds ₹6,000–₹35,000 and bike transport ₹2,500–₹12,000.

How are packers and movers charges calculated?+

Quotes are built from five inputs: distance, goods volume (which decides truck size), packing grade, floor/lift access at both ends, and season. Labour and packing material are usually 40–50% of a local bill; line-haul (truck + fuel + tolls) dominates intercity pricing.

What is the packers and movers cost per km?+

For household shifting, expect roughly ₹25–₹50 per km for a shared truck and ₹40–₹80 per km for a dedicated truck, falling as distance rises. Per-km maths only works beyond ~300 km — below that, fixed loading/unloading costs dominate.

Is GST charged on packers and movers services?+

Yes — 18% GST applies to packing-and-moving services from any registered mover. A mover who cannot issue a GST invoice is operating informally, and you have no paper trail if goods are damaged. Every mover listed on PackersBazaar is GST-verified.

What hidden charges should I watch for?+

The most common: packing material billed separately, stair-carry surcharges announced on moving day, tolls excluded from the quote, warehouse handling fees on shared trucks, and GST added on top of an "all-inclusive" price. Insist on a written, itemised quote that names each of these.

How can I reduce my shifting cost?+

Declutter before the pre-move survey (volume decides truck size), move mid-month on a weekday, avoid the May–June and Diwali peaks, choose a shared truck for smaller loads, and compare at least 3 written quotes from verified movers.

Do movers include packing material in the quote?+

Only if the written quote says so. Basic quotes often cover blankets and stretch wrap only; cartons, bubble wrap and wooden crates for fragiles are billed per piece unless you book a full-packing package. Get the packing grade in writing.

How much does transit insurance cost?+

Typically 1.5–3% of your declared goods value. On a ₹5 lakh household that is ₹7,500–₹15,000 — worth it on intercity moves, where a single transit accident can wipe out far more than the premium.
